There are only 8 most persistent and successful participants left after round four. Only one of them, Ivan Cheparinov (Bulgaria, 2670), has a rating lower than 2700 though he actually plays at this level. Other participants are confirming their top positions in the start list. However, there were a couple of surprises: Dmitry Jakovenko (Russia, 2710) managed to outplay Levon Aronian (Armenia, 2741), a pale but still a top seed, and Gata Kamsky (USA, 2714) overcame Peter Svidler (Russia, 2732). Both victories were gained on the rapid tiebreaks. Another tiebreak of Alekseev-Bareev match was convincingly won by top seed Evgeny Alekseev with a lopsided score. Pairings of the next lap - Carlsen-Cheparinov
- Karjakin-Alekseev
- Ponomariov-Kamsky
- Shirov-Jakovenko
