“Southern Ural” takes its first team points

The sixth round of Russian Team Championship took place on April 7th in Dagomys.

The loss of tournament’s leading team “Ural” from Ekaterinburg to middling “64” from Moscow caused a sensation. "Ural" extends its lead

Russian Team Championship is going on in Dagomys. Those teams which have chess players with a rating exceeding 2700 points according to FIDE rating, rank from the first to the third places.

The leader of the tournament “Ural” from Ekaterinburg has strengthened its hand with a narrow win over Saratov’s “Economist-SGSEU-1”. Azerbaijani player Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan, 2751), who plays for the Ural team, has secured a victory on the first board over Evgeny Alekseev (Russia, 2711).

But the real uncompromising struggle has been enveloping in the middle of the standings of the tournament.

Russian Team Chess Championship took off

Russian Team Championship 2008 has taken off in Dagomys (Krasnodar Region) on April 1st, 2008.

There are 12 teams from 9 cities: Moscow (“ShSM”, “64”, “Spasio-Swiss”), Chelyabinsk (“Southern Ural”), Ekaterinburg (“Ural”), Nizhny Tagil (“Polytechnik”), Saratov (“Economist-SGSEU-1”, “Economist-SGSEU-2”), Tomsk (“Tomsk-400”), St. Petersburg (“FINEK-GazPromBank”), Ulan-Ude (“Shatar-Metropol”) and Saransk (“TPS-Saransk”).

The teams are playing round-robin games on 6 boards. Each team consists of 8 players (6 primary ones, 2 alternates), except “Tomsk-400”, which totals 7 players. The championship will continue up to April 14t...

Magnus Carlsen and Levon Aronian are the winners of the Corus

The super-tournament Corus 2008 which was held in the Dutch city of Wijk aan Zee came to an end. The first place was shared by Magnus Carlsen (Norway, 2733) and Levon Aronian (Armenia, 2739) – they’ve earned 8 points out of 13 each. The 3rd and the 4th places were shared by the world champion Vishy Anand (India, 2799) and the winner of the last-year tournament Teimur Radjabov(Azerbaijan, 2735), which both earned 7.5 points.
